NBI Clearance is a legal document showing clean background of an individual person. Both the Filipino Citizens and foreign nationals living in the Philippines are eligible to apply for NBI Appointment Online to obtain their Clearance from NBI. Getting an NBI Clearance has become very easy since the process has become online.

The National Bureau of Investigation provides Online Registration, Sign-in, NBI Appointment Booking and NBI Clearance Fee Payment Services on the NBI website portal.

NBI Clearance: Get NBI Appointment Online

The NBI Clearance Process is mostly online, it requires only one small visit to an NBI Branch. The applicant registration, clearance application, NBI Appointment booking and fee payment, everything happens online. Here I provide a step-by-step guide about it.

Step 1: NBI Online Registration

Just open a web browser on your device and go to the official NBI Clearance Online Portal at clearance.nbi.gov.ph. If you are already registered, then you can skip the registration step and proceed to sign-in given in step 4.

For First Time Jobseekers:

The National Bureau of Investigation offers one-time Free NBI Clearance Certificate to Filipino Citizens seeking a job for the first time. The first time jobseeker must obtain a Barangay Certificate from the Barangay Hall in their residence region. Kindly follow the steps to register yourself as a first time jobseeker at NBI Clearance website.

NBI Online Registration
  1. Go to https://firsttimejobseekers.nbi.gov.ph/.
  2. Fill up the Online Form titled as Register as First Time Jobseeker.
  3. Provide your Gender, Civil Status, Birth Date, Full Name, Mobile Number, Email and Mother’s Maiden Name.
  4. Create a New Password and enter again to confirm it.
  5. Tick Terms of Services box and click on Agree.
  6. Tick the box I’m not a robot and click on Sign Up.
  7. Enter the OTP received on your Email/Mobile and submit to validate your account.

After completing NBI Online Registration, you can move to step 4 for sign-in and further process.

NBI Online Registration for All Applicants

NBI Online Registration is mandatory for all applicants who have not registered earlier. If you are new on NBI Clearance Portal, you must register yourself to create an NBI Account and then login with your email and password to apply for NBI Appointment Online at NBI Clearance website.

There are three ways to register online at NBI website:

  1. Register with Old NBI ID [Old NBI Clearance]
  2. Register with a Government ID
  3. Register with General/Regular Option

If you have an NBI Clearance issued in 2014 or later then you can register with your Old NBI ID.

If you don’t have an Old NBI Clearance, you can choose to register with a Government ID to make your registration process faster.

If you don’t have an Old NBI Clearance or a Government ID then you should register yourself with regular option. Actually, it is not a specific option named general or regular, it is just a way to register online at NBI Clearance portal without using an Old NBI ID and a Government ID. Here is step by step guide.

  1. Go to https://clearance.nbi.gov.ph/
  2. Select your Gender and Civil Status, enter your Birth Date.
  3. Provide your First Name, Middle Name, Surname, Mobile Number and Email.
  4. Create a New Password and reenter it to confirm.
  5. Tick the box to Accept Terms of Services and click on I Agree.
  6. Tick the box I’m not a robot and click on Sign Up.
  7. Enter the OTP received on your email to validate your account.

Now you are ready to sign-in and complete your personal information before you apply for NBI Clearance Online.

Step 2: Sign in to NBI Clearance Portal

The registered applicants are allowed to sign-in to NBI Clearance Portal to fill up or update their personal information. Kindly follow the steps given here to sign-in to your NBI Account and fill up personal information.

  1. Go to clearance.nbi.gov.ph.
  2. Enter your Email and Password, then click on Sign-in.
  3. Click on Application to fill in the remaining personal information.
  4. You can type NA in the box where the information is not applicable.
  5. After filling up all information correctly, click on Save Information.

Thereafter, a preview of your application will appear on screen. Check it carefully before submitting and then click on Submit to proceed.

Step 3: Apply for NBI Clearance

After submitting the information, click on Apply for Clearance given on upper right corner.

NBI Appointment

As you click on Apply for Clearance, a small window will show up. You need to select your Government ID Type. The Selected ID you need to present at the NBI office. The ID should be passports, driver’s licenses, National ID (Digital), PRC IDs, UMIDs, and others. Thereafter, click on I Agree to continue.

Step 4: Schedule Your NBI Appointment and Select Branch

You must select an NBI Branch for your NBI Appointment. Make sure that you select an NBI Branch that is close to your residence or office so that you don’t need to travel too much.

Kindly select your desired NBI Branch and then choose your NBI Appointment Date. Thereafter click on AM to set your NBI Appointment in the morning or click on PM to set the appointment in the afternoon/evening time.

Step 5: Select Payment Method and Pay Clearance Fee

After setting NBI Appointment Schedule, the next step is to pay the clearance fee. You should select pay ₱130 as NBI Clearance Fee plus ₱25-30 convenience fee or e-payment service fee. If you want to save the additional cost, you can pay the clearance fee at the NBI Main Branch, you will need to pay ₱130 only.

NBI Appointment Fees

The NBI Clearance Portal allows you to pay the clearance fee via GCash, PayMaya, ECPay, 7-Eleven, Visa/Master Card, Over-the-Counter at Bank, Cash Payments and Online Banking. You can select your suitable payment method and make payment of clearance fee to confirm your NBI Appointment.

Note: First Time Jobseekers cannot see the fee payment page during NBI Online Appointment booking process because they are not required to pay any fee. They can get the NBI Clearance at free of cost.

Step 6: Check Payment Status

After completing clearance fee payment, you need to print the payment receipt. But before that, you should sign-in to NBI Clearance Portal and select Transactions tab to check your payment status. If it shows Pending then you need to wait for some minutes/hours.

In case the status shows as Paid then you can print the payment receipt. You should also print your Online Application and note down your NBI Reference Number.

Step 7: Visit the NBI Branch

On your NBI Appointment Day, please visit your selected NBI Branch with the documents mentioned below.

  • Two Valid Government IDs, Original
  • NBI Reference Number
  • NBI Online Application Printout
  • Fee Payment Receipt Printout

With above mentioned documents, you are ready to attend your appointment at the NBI Branch. Please reach the NBI Branch 15 minutes before your appointment time.

Step 8: Collect your NBI Clearance

Once you have all documents ready, just visit your selected NBI Branch on your appointment day and follow the steps given here to compete remaining process to get your NBI Clearance.

  1. Enter the NBI Branch and go to NBI Clearance Service Desk.
  2. Show your NBI Reference Number and Fee Payment Receipt.
  3. Submit your original Government IDs for background check and identity verification.
  4. Move towards biometrics desk to register your fingerprints.
  5. Register your signature and get your live photo captured.
  6. Wait for your name to be called out by an NBI personnel.
  7. Go to the service desk, collect your NBI Clearance and your Government IDs.
  8. Check if all information on your NBI Clearance are correct and exit the NBI Branch.

“HIT” Status in NBI Clearance

On completion of NBI Appointment at the NBI Branch, the respective authority will release an NBI Clearance with the applicant’s name. Most applicants receive their NBI Clearance with No Hit, while some of them also get the NBI Clearance with Hit. Let me explain it to make it clear for you.

NBI Clearance with No Hit: It is a clearance indicating “No Record on File” to reflect that there are neither criminal history nor derogatory records on the relevant applicant’s name.

NBI Clearance with Hit: It is a clearance indicating that there are one or multiple criminal/derogatory records on relevant applicant’s name. All found criminal records are clearly mentioned on the NBI Clearance.

Important Note:

If there is one or more derogatory records found during ID verification and background check, the NBI service personnel may call up the applicant to discuss the records. The NBI personnel may request more documents and a period of 4-5 working days to complete further background checks and release the NBI Clearance.

On completion of a detailed background check, the NBI service personnel may or may not find the applicant to have criminal/derogatory records.

  • If the NBI confirms the crime history, they will release the NBI Clearance with Hit.
  • In case the NBI cannot confirm the crime history, they will release the NBI Clearance with No Hit.

Missed NBI Appointment? What You Should Do

The NBI Appointment is the last step of NBI Clearance Process in which the applicant needs to visit the NBI Branch. If you missed your NBI Appointment then you have you have a grace period of 15 days.

You don’t need to do anything online. With all required documents, just walk-in to your selected NBI Branch within 15 days of the missed appointment day.

Provide your payment receipt and reference number at NBI Clearance Service Desk. Follow the instructions given by the NBI Personnel to complete biometrics, photo capture and other tasks to finally get your NBI Clearance.

Note: If you cannot visit the NBI Branch in 15 days of missing your NBI Appointment then you must book a fresh appointment and pay the clearance fee again. The NBI Clearance Fee you paid earlier cannot be refunded or transferred to new appointment under any circumstances.

NBI Clearance Walk-in Application

Generally, the National Bureau of Investigation does not accept walk-in applications for NBI Clearance. But there are some exceptional cases when the NBI allows walk-in application, considering the applicant’s age and physical condition.

The NBI Authorities accept walk-in applications from some specific categories of people. Here I provide such categories as follows:

  1. Senior Citizens (Elderly People)
  2. Persons with Disability (PWD)
  3. Pregnant Women

If you belong to one of the three categories mentioned above then you can walk-in to an NBI Branch to apply for NBI Clearance without prior online appointment. If you are not in these three categories then you must complete Online Registration and NBI Appointment Booking at NBI Clearance website before visiting the NBI Branch.

NBI Clearance Validity

The National Bureau of Investigation provides a minimum 6 months and a maximum 12 months (1 year) validity with each NBI Clearance. The expiry date is clearly mentioned on the NBI Clearance Certificate.

Check your NBI Clearance to find out its expiry date and note it down. The knowledge of NBI Clearance Validity helps you to decide when you should renew your NBI Clearance Online.

NBI Clearance Online Renewal

When your NBI Clearance is about to expire, you can apply for NBI Clearance Renewal Online at NBI Clearance website. The renewal process is faster compared to a fresh application because the NBI already have applicant’s personal information and biometrics data.

When you apply for NBI Clearance Online Renewal, you need to book an NBI Online Appointment to pick up your NBI Clearance when it is ready. If the NBI Branch is close to your residence/office then choose pick up option otherwise select the delivery option.

The NBI provides door-to-door delivery option during NBI Clearance Online Renewal Process. If you select the delivery option, the NBI will dispatch your clearance to your registered address and the courier partner will deliver it to your doorstep.

In order to receive the NBI Clearance at your doorstep, you have to pay the Delivery Fee of ₱200 in addition to the NBI Clearance Fee & e-payment service fee.

If the NBI Clearance Delivery Address is in Metro Manila then the Delivery Fee is ₱200. In case the delivery address is outside Metro Manila then the Delivery Fee is ₱350.

NBI Online Appointment Benefits

The NBI Online Appointment is a mandatory process for every applicant to obtain NBI Clearance in the Philippines.
